IT salaries expected to rise

MENLO PARK, Calif. – Information technology salaries are expected to be on the rise, according to the 2012 Salary Guide release by Robert Half Technology on Oct. 27.
“Mobile media isn’t just making it easier to get information on the go – it’s also creating demand for professionals who can help companies beef up their mobile presence,” Robert Half said while noting that access to increasing amounts of data; constantly evolving IT security threats; and growing online collaboration in business are also fueling IT hiring.
“The demand for professionals who can help companies take advantage of new technologies, such as mobile media or popular collaboration tools, is outpacing the supply in some cases,” said John Reed, executive director of Robert Half Technology. “This has resulted in higher starting salaries within certain specialty areas.”

  • Mobile application developers are expected to see salaries rise 9.1 percent from 2010 to a range of $85,000 to $122,500.
  • Business intelligence analysts are slated to see a 6.3 percent increase in average starting salaries, to a range of $87,750 to $123,500.
  • Data security analysts are expected to increase 6 percent to a range of $89,000 to $121,500.
  • Software developers are slated to see an uptick of 6.5 percent next year to a range of $70,000 to $111,000.
