“We rely on the innovation and skill of our engineers to develop award-winning, industry-leading products for markets and customers worldwide,” Chris Watson, KVH’s director of marketing, said in a news release. “The KVH Technology Scholars award is one way that we hope to encourage students to pursue higher education in math and engineering while also allowing us to support our community as well.”

In addition, KVH announced a new promotion at last week’s Palm Beach Boat Show in West Palm Beach, Fla. The company is offering $1,000 in free airtime to boaters who purchase the company’s TracPhone 252 satellite system between now and June 30.
Consumers are watching their budgets in a down economy, said Jim George, KVH’s director of sales for satellite products. The promotion is also being timed to coincide with the start of the spring boating season. “We hope that our customers take advantage of this promotion and enjoy this affordable satellite communications solution for years to come,” he said.
Also, last month the company announced that the Canadian firm Frontline Robotics is using KVH’s CNS-5000 continuous navigation system in its GRUNT Autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicles, which are used to monitor sensitive areas like airport perimeters and container yards.
In 2008, KVH saw its annual profit increase 22 percent to $3 million, as sales increased by just under 2 percent to $82.4 million, on the strength of military contracts.
