Lincoln development to provide memory care

H.L. George Development Co. has broken ground in Lincoln for what the company says will be Rhode Island’s first assisted-living community solely for those in need of memory care.
“We have studied the market, and it is clear that there is a need throughout the entire area,” said Herb George, of H.L. George, developer of The Village at Waterman Lake in Smithfield, Bay Spring Village in Barrington and Canterbury Woods in Attleboro.
The new “Albion Court, a Specialized Memory Care Community,” is being constructed on a site off Albion Road, and is slated to open this fall, the developer said.
The development’s four distinct neighborhoods will feature a total of 60 private studio apartments, each with a private bath. The apartments will be connected by secure access to central administrative and support facilities – including separate dining and activity rooms for each neighborhood – and secure outdoor gardens.
In addition to traditional assisted-living services, such as personal-care assistance and medication reminders, the program will incorporate research on caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. All caregivers will receive ongoing training related to caring for those with memory-loss issues. •
