NORTH ATTLEBORO – Greenwood Emergency Vehicles Inc. is bringing back the famed Maxim Motor Co. brand of fire trucks two decades after the company went out of business.

Margrette Cardone Mondillo, a spokeswoman for Greenwood, said the company purchased the Maxim name in 2008 with plans to grow the line. The company delivered two Maxim-branded tanker trucks to Jamestown’s fire department that year.

Greenwood now plans to build about 12 to 15 Maxim trucks a year, and anticipates adding eight to 10 employees over the next three years to work on them, Mondillo said.

Middleboro, Mass.-based Maxim Motor closed in 1989 after 75 years of building fire trucks known for their stainless-steel bodies and galvanized steel subframes, large hosebeds and modular body construction.

“The Maxim fire trucks are very unique; the design is unmistakable, and the truck itself is a perfect fit for many fire departments,” Greenwood President Tim O’Neill said in a statement.

“We’re all about offering our customers a choice, and to be able to build these new trucks right here on site will be of great advantage to the folks who buy these, in terms of our ability to customize them and service them for the lifetime of the truck,” he added.

Greenwood, which sells a variety of emergency vehicles, will build the Maxim trucks at its North Attleboro facility. They will be serviced both there and at its satellite facility in Brunswick, Maine.
