BOSTON – The number of single-family homes sales in Massachusetts and their median sales price rose in June compared with the same month last year, The Warren Group said Tuesday.
The real estate tracking firm added that home sales in Bristol County, Mass., increased 14.7 percent to 397 from 346 last June. The median price in the county slipped to $240,000 from $255,000 a year ago, a 5.9 percent drop.
In the Bay State as a whole, 5,726 homes sold in June, up 28.5 percent from 4,457 during the same month last year. June marked the fifth consecutive month of double-digit percentage increases in the number of sales. The Warren Group said that sales volume has not neared 6,000 since June 2006, when there were 6,152 sales.
The median sales price increased 6.9 percent to $325,000 from $304,000 a year ago.
“It appears buyers were aggressive in June,” The Warren Group CEO Timothy M. Warren Jr. said. “The spring season is historically good for the real estate market. That factor paired with the [federal] tax credit made for a very strong month.”
In the condominium market, The Warren Group said 2,511 condos sold in June, up from 1,915 a year ago. The median price rose to $282,000 from $277,000 a year ago. In Bristol County the number of June sales ticked up to 69 in from 58. The median sales price slid to $175,000 from $181,500.
