Mistry named chief pharmacy officer at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has named Samir Mistry vice president and chief pharmacy officer, leading the health insurer’s pharmacy strategy and overseeing the company’s relationship with its pharmacy benefits manager, Prime Therapeutics LLC.

Mistry has worked in managed care for two decades, focusing on strategies to improve and lower costs through provider partnerships and contracting, according to an announcement from Blue Cross. Before working at the health insurer, Mistry was with pharmacy benefit manager Abarca Health, where he served as vice president, rebates and pricing strategies. While there, he led trade relations, analytics, outcomes and value-based contracting. He has also served as corporate vice president of pharmacy at InnovaCare Health Inc. and pharmacy practice leader at Optimity Advisors. Mistry has held roles at Optums’s Ingenix Consulting, Express Scripts Inc. and Allied Medical Management Inc., the company said.

Mistry, a member of the America’s Health Insurance Plans association and the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy organization – where he served on the finance committee, earned his doctorate in pharmacy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He also completed a residency in managed care pharmacy practice at the university.

Mistry is relocating to Rhode Island from Minneapolis with his wife, Shweta, and their two young boys, Nikhil and Tejas.
