WOONSOCKET – Getting your prescriptions on your lunch break may no longer be an option if you are a CVS Health Corp. customer.

The pharmacy giant recently announced it has begun closing most of its pharmacies nationwide from 1:30 to 2 p.m. daily to give its pharmacists a “predictable and consistent daily pause,” according to a statement from CVS. The complete rollout is expected to be finished by Feb. 28.

“We want to make sure our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are at their best, which means supporting their schedules accordingly. While we’ve always had a meal break policy, we’ve begun rolling out a pre-scheduled, uninterrupted lunch break across our pharmacies.” the statement said.

All Rhode Island and Massachusetts pharmacies will be closing for the half-hour lunch break and customers who signed up to receive text messages were also notified, said Amy Thibault, lead director for external communications for CVS Pharmacy. Signage about the closure was also posted inside stores, Thibault added.

CVS didn’t specify which pharmacies were not closing for the lunch break.

The company announced last year it was closing 900 stores nationwide, about 10% of its locations, over the next three years.
