MWRA finds no trace of drugs in supply test

BOSTON – The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority reported this month that its supply is free of pharmaceutical pollutants reportedly found in water supplies throughout the country.
The authority, which supplies water to 50 communities and 2.3 million customers in the state, conducted the test following an Associated Press story in early March, which found various water systems across the country contained pharmaceutical compounds. The compounds are not regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and water suppliers do not normally test for them.
In the release, the authority said it did not anticipate finding compounds in its supply, largely because of its well-protected source reservoirs and ozone treatment methods. &#8226
