New England Gas Co. continued its support of the Thomas Chew Memorial Boys & Girls Club Kids Café, recently awarding a grant of $5,000 to the nonprofit.
David Black, New England Gas chief operating officr, said, “Of all the organizations New England Gas supports in the greater Fall River community, the Boys & Girls Club, to me, is the most inspiring. As I served the 150, or more, kids that streamed through for a free hot meal of roast chicken, baked potato, green beans and freshly baked biscuits, I could see in every face a genuine appreciation for this nurturing home away from home.”
The Thomas Chew Memorial Boys & Girls Club is the largest child care provider in the City of Fall River. It offers programming every day after-school throughout the school year and on Saturdays, through a program called Safe and Sound. In collaboration with the Boston Food Bank, the Kids Café offers nutritious snacks and meals to youth members free of charge and provides as many as 200 youth with an afternoon snack and dinner. On Saturdays the Kid’s Café serves as many as 150 youth a healthy lunch.
