New England Tech IT professor nets awards for 2 of his textbooks

EAST GREENWICH – Timothy Henry, a professor of information technology at East Greenwich-based New England Institute of Technology, has won two awards from the Textbook & Academic Authors Association for two books he co-authored. Twenty-six books were chosen for recognition overall.

Henry’s book, “The Gift of Fire: Social, Legal and Ethical Issues for Computing Technology,” co-authored by Sara Baase, won the 2018 TAA Textbook Excellence Award, judged on merits in the areas of pedagogy; content/scholarship; writing; and appearance and design.

One of the judges described the book as “a tremendously comprehensive text that covers the main ethical and social issues that loom large with the ubiquity of technology in our world today,” adding, “ample exercises at the end of each chapter encourage the highest level of critical thinking from the reader.”

Henry’s 2016 book, “Data Abstraction & Problem Solving with C++: Walls and Mirrors, 7th Edition,” won TAA’s McGuffey Longevity Award. The book was co-authored by Frank Carrano.
