NORTH KINGSTOWN – Ocean State Job Lot has donated $50,000 to “Supporting Those Who Served,” a joint program in support of veterans launched by OSJL and the YMCA of Greater Providence.

The funds, which come from OSJL’s “Operation: Thank You” coffers, will provide one-year YMCA memberships to local veterans. In the hope of growing a sense of community, the memberships will be free and are available at any of the YMCA of Greater Providence’s seven branches.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Greater Providence YMCA to further this effort by providing access to their services that a veteran and his or her family might not otherwise receive,” said David Sarlitto, executive director of the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the North Kingstown-based chain retailing company, in a statement.

“Giving is not something new to Ocean State Job Lot, and their efforts have enormous value to our veterans,” said Steven G. O’Donnell, YMCA of Greater Providence CEO, in a statement. “Veterans are the backbone of our society and we are proud to partner with such a distinguished group of caring and giving leaders to positively impact our heroes and their families.”
