Pawtucket Foundation forms land trust

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Foundation has established a land trust.
The private nonprofit organization announced the subsidiary last week. The foundation said that the trust would aim to preserve open space, and historic structures and cultural monuments within the city. It pledged to provide public access to the sites where appropriate and maintain them.
“We hope to use historic facade easements to preserve the urban fabric of downtown and prevent further demolition of landmark buildings that contribute to the culture and historic value of the city,” said Thomas A. Mann Jr., president of the Pawtucket Land Trust. “We are certainly thinking beyond conventional conservation activities. We want to be innovative and help our city the way the Westerly Land Trust has helped Westerly’s downtown.”
The foundation named John J. Partridge, a lawyer at Partridge Snow & Hahn, chairman of the land trust’s board.
