People’s Credit Union CEO Ellen Ford receives distinguished leadership award

MIDDLETOWN – People’s Credit Union CEO Ellen Ford was recently recognized with the Sandra J. Pattie Distinguished Leadership Award during the New England Women in Banking Conference at The Hotel Viking in Newport.

The conference focuses on providing women in the banking and credit union professions with a leadership forum.

The Sandra J. Pattie Distinguished Leadership Award honors women who have made outstanding contributions to banking in New England. Ford received the award in recognition of her role as a business leader and community advocate. She has more than 35 years in the industry and has held various positions of increased responsibility during her career, including being appointed president and CEO of People’s Credit Union in 2002.

In addition, Ford served on the board of directors of the Credit Union Association of Rhode Island from 2004 to 2014. Currently, she serves as chairwoman of the board of directors for the three-state Cooperative Credit Union Association. She also serves on the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston’s Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council.

“Ellen works extremely hard on behalf of our members, our employees and the community,” said People’s Credit Union President Amy Martel. “She believes in the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people’ and has been a role model for women in finance not only because of her career success at People’s but also due to her consistent efforts to give back to the community.”

Also receiving the Sandra J. Pattie Distinguished Leadership Award was Jean Joy of Wolf & Co., an accounting firm in Boston. A partner at Wolf & Co., Joy led the firm’s Financial Institutions Group for decades. Her work with banks and credit unions across the region and her support for the industry is “legendary,” organizers said.
