Phoenix Houses of New England, a nonprofit substance abuse treatment and prevention organization, held its ninth annual Public Service Award Luncheon at The Westin Providence. The event honored GTECH’s Donald R. Sweitzer, chairman, and Jaymin B. Patel, president and CEO, for their leadership and contributions to the community with the 2009 New England Public Service Award. More than 300 attended the luncheon, at which $151,000 was raised to benefit the nonprofit’s treatment programs and services.
George A. Vecchione, president and CEO of Lifespan and recipient of the 2008 award, served as honorary chairman of the event. He was joined by Marc A. Crisafulli, partner at Hinckley, Allen & Snyder; and Robert K. Vincent, senior vice president of corporate affairs at GTECH, who served as co-chairmen.
“GTECH’s commitment to our community is exemplified by their donation of the GTECH Technology Center at Phoenix Academy at Wallum Lake,” said Patrick B. McEneaney, regional director of Phoenix Houses of New England. “Because of their generosity, our students have learned computer skills integral to their educational success.” •
