A week after receiving the endorsements of the United Nurses & Allied Professionals and the Alliance for Retired Americans, David Cicilline announced today that his campaign has received the full endorsement of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 51, a 1,286-member strong union based in East Providence that represents plumbers, pipefitters, and refrigeration technicians.
“With David Cicilline in Congress, Rhode Islanders will have a strong advocate fighting on their behalf every single day,” said Local 51 Business Manager Thomas Handfield. “David’s far-right Republican opponent will vote to extend tax breaks for companies that shift jobs overseas and hold middle class tax cuts hostage to tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires. The members of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 51 are excited to endorse David’s campaign for Congress and we look forward to working with him as he fights to put people back to work and get our economy back on the right track.”

These endorsements demonstrate a growing surge of momentum behind David Cicilline’s campaign for Congress as Election Day approaches. Cicilline has run a campaign focused on creating jobs in Rhode Island through manufacturing and infrastructure investment, fighting efforts to repeal the provisions for expanded access to health care coverage, and protecting Social Security. Cicilline’s endorsements by these groups indicate he is unifying the coalition of voters that sent Patrick Kennedy to Congress for the last 16 years.

Local 51 is a member of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada. They were recently formed from the consolidation of four local unions in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.
