Davis, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the award-winning Provider Insurance Group, announced that on December 31, 2009, he is entrusting the role he has held since 1980 to agency Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), William (Bill) Darcey.
A forty-year insurance industry veteran, Davis is retaining his role as Provider Insurance Group Chairman of the Board until December 31, 2010. He’s also continuing at the agency to advise clients, pursue new opportunities and ensure the smooth transition of client business. Bill Darcey, long-time Rhode Island business owner of the former Darcey & Darcey Insurance Agency, assumes the position of agency President and CEO on January 1, 2010.

Long-Term Leadership Strategy
The decision to promote Darcey to CEO is part of a long-term strategy to retain the culture of trust that has helped the firm grow steadily. Davis says: “While Provider operates as a team, our success depends largely on the integrity of deep customer relationships. My job over the next year is to reassure clients of their value to the firm, and instill their confidence in the professionals that will represent them for many years to come.”
At the heart of the agency’s strategy to sustain client confidence is the appointment of Bill Darcey to President and CEO. In addition to the experience of running a successful insurance agency, Darcey has the vision and strong management background to sustain Provider’s growth in an increasingly competitive, technology-focused insurance market. He was President of Rhode Island-based Darcey & Darcey Insurance Agency until it merged with Provider in 2001.
According to Davis, “Bill’s a maverick in the smart use of technology to connect with customers and give us a marketing edge. He’s also a savvy financial manager and inspiring team builder. These are just the leadership skills Provider needs to keep moving forward.”
Legacy of Growth and Integrity
When Darcey steps up into the chief executive office in January, his primary objective will be setting Provider on a sustainable path for future growth. Darcey says: “Encouraging new ways to deliver value will be a big focus for me as President and CEO. So will preserving Rick’s commitment to service excellence, professional integrity and community support.”
Giving back to the community in which it operates is a core piece of the agency’s mission, and Davis intends to further this lifelong mission. A trustee for Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Needham and Needham Rotary Club member, Davis will continue to maintain his support of the local business community and as Chairman of the Board of InsureBanc.
