NEW YORK – An executive of a Rhode Island company pleaded guilty to destroying a formula developed by a competitor, Rohm & Haas Co., for electroplating Intel Corp. microchips, Bloomberg News Service reported.
Robert Schetty III, a vice president in charge of developing and marketing electroplating products for Cranston, Rhode Island-based Technic Inc., pleaded guilty today in federal court in Central Islip, New York, to destroying a Rohm & Haas solution called ST380 that was being tested by Intel.

“Fearing that Technic would lose its electroplating business with Intel, Schetty admitted today that he and others sabotaged the qualification testing by contaminating and destroying two baths of ST380 during the testing process,” the U.S. Attorney’s office in Brooklyn said in a statement today.
Schetty faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison, three years probation and a $250,000 fine, prosecutors said. He agreed to pay $15,536 restitution to Rohm & Haas.
