R.I. Hospital moves eye clinic off campus

PROVIDENCE – As part of a continuing trend that has seen hospitals move inpatient services to an outpatient location, Rhode Island Hospital announced Jan. 10 that it is moving its eye clinic to a new location, 1 Hoppin St., in the former Hallett Center on the first floor of the Coro Building.
The new location will provide patients with more comfortable waiting and treatment areas, as well as convenient covered parking in the Coro garage, a covered walkway/bridge into the building, and easy access on and off Interstate 95 and Interstate 195, hospital officials said.
“The ophthalmology department sees about 20 new patients each day,” said Ellen Slingsby, senior media relations officer at Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “The move was simply to accommodate a growing patient census.”
The new space, according to Slingsby, will host the department’s general eye clinic and specialty eye clinics, such as cornea care, an expanded glaucoma service, plastic surgery, neuro-opthalmology and retina clinics. Visual field testing, ocular imaging, minor outpatient procedures and consultations will all be available in the new location. &#8226
