The Rhode Island Hospitality Association (RIHA) was honored with the Environmental Merit Award by the New England Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The EPA’s annual Environmental Merit Award recognizes environmental advocates who have made significant contributions toward preserving and protecting natural resources. RIHA was honored for its efforts to develop and implement the Green Hospitality Certification Program.
“We are extremely proud to accept this award on behalf of the Rhode Island Hospitality Association and all of the organizations that partnered with us on the Green Hospitality Certification Program,” said Dale Venturini, president and CEO of RIHA. “The program has been a great success, as we have certified more than 41 Rhode Island businesses.”
The program provides guidelines and step-by-step suggestions for hospitality and tourism businesses to employ green business practices. The program focuses on energy conservation, water conservation, waste minimization and recycling, and sustainable operating and purchasing practices. •
