PROVIDENCE – Semper Home Loans moved last week to a new, larger headquarters in Providence and plans to hire 50 new employees, it said this week.
The company moved in during the course of two days to its new digs at 225 DuPont Drive in Providence from its old headquarters at 1 Richmond Square, also in Providence. The new 12,000-square-foot office falls within a state enterprise zone, which opens the door for tax incentives for companies that hire new employees.
The company said it plans to hire underwriters, loan processors, client relations people, a controller, human resources people and team leaders.
“This is an exciting time for our company because we’ve broken with convention despite the economic downturn and have expanded and flourished,” Semper Home Loans Chief Strategy Officer Raymond Duquette said. “We’ve done the unusual – shed our small mortgage company status to emerge as a bigger, better, well positioned lender – and we need more great people to effectively execute our growth plan.”
In a statement, Keith W. Stokes, the executive director of the R.I. Economic Development Corporation, hailed the move.
“We are thrilled to support Semper Home Loans in the growth of their company,” he said. “They have shown a consistent commitment to growing local jobs and adjusting their business objectives to weather challenging economic times.”
Founded in 2005, Semper originated as a mortgage brokerage with five loan officers and today employs more than 20 people. The company is licensed to sell loans throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia, with licenses pending in 11 other states. It also maintains an office in North Carolina.
