“I completely support Education Commissioner Gist and Superintendent Gallo’s handling of the Central Falls High School situation. The leadership of the American Federation of Teachers union in Central Falls epitomizes all that’s wrong with public education today. They have shown no regard for the children, the citizens of Central Falls nor the dedicated teachers who they supposedly represent.

By distorting the facts and refusing to allow a vote by their members, the union leadership, and they alone, are responsible for the terminations of the teachers and the tarnishing of their professional image. The members of the union should immediately call for a vote of no confidence in their union leadership and strongly consider launching a decertification petition ending their role as collective bargaining agents. It is clear that the American Federation of Teachers in Central Falls has committed a grave injustice to the children, the taxpayers and their members.

It’s the moment of truth for the teachers to show they truly care about the children and that they are willing to do whatever it takes to transform this school.”
