PROVIDENCE – TEDxProvidence returns to The Veterans Memorial Auditorium on Oct. 13. The eighth annual event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include an after-party, speakers, performers and visiting food trucks, according to a TEDxProvidence press release.

The group is seeking speaker nominations for the event, themed, “The Time is Now.”

Nominations close on April 15, according to TEDxProvidence. Nominees can include community leaders, entrepreneurs, activists, designers, religious leaders, athletes, youth, government officials and others, and do not need to be professional speakers. Speaker coaching is provided, and self-nominations and multiple nominations are accepted.

TED stands for “technology, entertainment and design,” but its topics can range from science to culture to art, as well. TED is a media organization founded as a conference in 1984, which posts talks online for free distribution under the slogan “ideas worth spreading.” TEDxProvidence is an independently organized event.
