Textron unit buys wireless sensor maker

PROVIDENCE – Textron Inc. subsidiary Textron Systems announced Wednesday it has acquired Crane Wireless Monitoring Solutions, a Richardson, Texas-based developer of wireless sensor networks. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

A Crane Co. business, WMS provides wireless sensor products and remote monitoring services for commercial and government applications. The 25-person WMS team will become a part of Textron Defense Systems, operating under the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance product line.

Textron Defense Systems Senior Vice President and General Manager Mark Catizone said in a statement released by the company that WMS’s “extensive radio communications, wireless systems and signal processing expertise complement our ISR products. We see a growing market for networked sensors and believe the addition of WMS extends our portfolio offerings.”

Crane Co. manufactures highly engineered products in five business segments: aerospace and electronics, engineered materials, merchandising systems, fluid handling and controls. The company is headquartered in Stamford, Conn.
