T.F. Green traffic drop continues in April

WARWICK – Passenger traffic at T.F. Green continued to lag last year’s levels in April, while freight shipments plunged, according to figures released by the R.I. Airport Corporation.

In its monthly traffic report, the agency said 395,499 passengers passed through T.F. Green in April, down 4.1 percent from the same month last year, when the airport saw 412,471 passengers.

The number of passengers boarding planes at T.F. Green in April fell 3.8 percent to 197,807, down from 205,645 a year earlier, the agency said.

Southwest Airlines remained by far the largest carrier by passenger volume in April, with 220,933 local passengers, or 55.9 percent of the total number of passengers at last month. Southwest saw its passenger volume at T.F. Green increase 2.2 percent compared with a year ago, when the airline had 216,243 local passengers.

U.S. Airways was the No. 2 carrier at T.F. Green in April, with 82,208 passengers, or 20.8 percent of the total number, a decrease of 4.9 percent from a year earlier, when U.S. Airways had 86,485 local passengers.

The No. 3 carrier, United Airlines, saw its passenger volume at T.F. Green rise 3.2 percent in April to 29,654 from 28,729 a year earlier. No. 4 Northwest saw passenger volume increase 4.1 percent to 22,206.

Total cargo shipments through T.F. Green dropped 36.5 percent in April to 1.57 million pounds, compared with 2.47 million pounds a year earlier. Freight shipments, which make up more than two-thirds of T.F. Green’s cargo traffic, plunged 41.2 percent to 1.13 million pounds, while mail shipments declined 20.3 percent to 439,791 pounds.
