WOONSOCKET – Thundermist Health Center, which serves more than 25,000 primarily low-income patients at facilities in Woonsocket, South County and West Warwick, is hosting its fifth annual golf tournament on Sept. 22 at the Sakonnet Golf Club to raise funds to support operations.
“With the increased number of uninsured patients we have been seeing since last fall, we need help to close the financial gap during these difficult times,” said Chief Executive Officer Maria Montanaro. “We are very grateful to have committed Foundation Board members to work on the golf tournament.”
Thundermist, a federally funded community health center, provides primary care, dental care, mental health services to adults and children, including a large number of RIte Care beneficiaries, but also poor and uninsured people with no other access to regular care.
Last year’s tournament raised about $25,000 for Thundermist, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Based on “fantastic” feedback about last year’s event, tournament committee chairman Brendan Kane said, the format will remain the same, focused entirely on golf, with no dinner, raffles or silent auctions, just cocktails and hors d’oeuvres afterward.
The tournament starts at noon, with registration and an early lunch at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $500 per person or $2,000 per foursome, and there are various sponsorship opportunities, from $150 to sponsor a tee, to $5,000 for a “premier” sponsorship.
The Sakonnet Golf Club is at 79 Sakonnet Point Road, Little Compton. For more information or to register, go to the Thundermist Web site.
