TIVERTON – The public received its first look at the design for a proposed new library in town last week.
Providence-based Donald Powers Architects presented the plans on Feb. 14 to the Tiverton Library Committee and members of the town council. The new library, at the corner of Crandall and Bulgarmarsh roads, would replace the Essex Public Library.
Donald Powers Architects presented a 24,000-square-foot, single-story, stone structure with a clock tower. The architectural firm said the building would include a community meeting hall, a café, a children’s library, a teen room and exterior public courtyard spaces.
The town selected Donald Powers Architects in 2009 to design the building, which the firm says will meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards.
The town hopes to cover $9 million of the $11 million expected total through grants, state money and a capital campaign. The plan also assumes the town council approves placing a roughly $2 million bond on the November ballot and voters approve it.
