NORTH KINGSTOWN – Kojiro Maeda, a 32-year veteran of Toray Plastics and its Tokyo-based parent company Toray Industries Inc., has been named the U.S. company’s first chairman of the board.
“It’s an honor to be named the first chairman of the board of Toray Plastics (America) Inc.,” Maeda said in a statement last week. “I am privileged to work with an outstanding management team and among so many talented, committed people. We will continue to strive to serve our customers with nothing less than excellence.”
Maeda – who joined Toray Industries in 1976, after earning a master’s degree in chemistry at Osaka University –had been president of Toray Plastics for the past two years. He has worked at the U.S.-based division since 1998, except for a two-year stint in Tokyo, as general manager of the film products division, that began in 2004.
Under his stewardship, the North Kingstown-based company “grew to prominence as North America’s only manufacturer of precision-performance polypropylene and polyester films for packaging and industrial applications and solidified its reputation as a highly competitive industry innovator,” the parent company said.
“Kojiro Maeda is an exemplary executive whose depth of knowledge of the company and the industry is extraordinary,” said Takeo Togano, a director and senior vice president of Toray Industries. “His proven leadership and trusted counsel will serve Toray Plastics (America) Inc. well in the North American and European markets for many years to come.”Maeda’s appointment was effective June 26. His former post – as president and chief operating officer of Toray Plastics (America) – is now filled by Richard Schloesser, the first American to hold that position. (READ MORE)
