Warrant issued for owner of Renaissance Medical

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Department of Health has suspended the medical license of Dr. Tarek W. Wehbe, of Renaissance Medical Group, for “presenting an immediate danger to the public’s health and safety.”
An arrest warrant has also been issued for Wehbe, who is believed by prosecutors to be out of the country.
A federal complaint accuses him of health care fraud, money laundering and illicit distribution of drugs.
In suspending Wehbe’s license in early April, the health department said it was particularly concerned that a small group of patients with cancer may not have received appropriate doses of chemotherapy in the doctor’s office.
Dr. Robert Crausman, chief administrative officer of the state board of medical licensure and discipline, told Providence Business News last week that all those patients have been contacted.
He said that the next step for the department would be to revoke Wehbe’s license, though in cases involving criminal charges the suspension is often extended indefinitely.
Wehbe owns Renaissance, located at 790 North Main St. &#8226
