Wash Trust VP named top tech exec

WESTERLY – Barbara J. Perino, the Washington Trust Co.’s senior vice president of operations and technology has been named as one of Bank Systems & Technology’s Elite 8 outstanding bank technology executives for 2009.
Perino was honored at an Oct. 5 awards ceremony in Pasadena, Calif.
Each year the editors of the industry publication Bank Systems & Technology recognize the most effective senior technology executives in banking. The editors select a handful of bank technology leaders who exemplify the spirit of innovation and teamwork that helps drive business success.
Perino was recognized for her role in overhauling legacy systems, developing customer-insight capabilities and building an infrastructure that supports Washington Trust’s growth strategies.
“A lot of that is making sure we have the backbone and network infrastructure that is sufficient to support the growth we’ve experienced, to eliminate risk and manage risk by single points of failure,” Perino said.
“Barbara has done a fine job making sure that Washington Trust is able to compete technologically with the big banks,” said John C. Warren, chairman and CEO of Washington Trust.
Washington Trust Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: WASH) is the parent of The Washington Trust Co., a Rhode Island-chartered bank founded in 1800 that has offices in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and southeastern Connecticut. Additional information is available at www.WashTrust.com.
