In launching their new bakeshop on the Pawtucket-Providence line, Mike and Rob Fitzhenry hope that the food they like best will soon also become “watUlike.”
“We only bake what we love to eat at home, hence the name,” said Mike Fitzhenry, who co-owns the bakeshop with his husband, Rob.
Since opening their doors in late February, they’ve so far been off to a good start in achieving that goal, with the shop seeing a “tremendous” response during its first month, Mike Fitzhenry said.
The Fitzhenrys craft a menu that is “refined, rustic and homemade,” Mike Fitzhenry said, including regularly changing offerings such as muffins, breads, babkas, cobblers, cookies and candy bars.
The bakeshop also sells hot and cold beverages and pantry items to assist customers in their own baking.
While their baked goods are made from scratch, the Fitzhenrys source pantry items from throughout the world, stocking provisions such as Icelandic chocolate, Italian salt and Canadian maple syrup.
They have worked in the hospitality industry throughout their lives, Mike Fitzhenry says, with his partner previously working as a pastry chef.
The Fitzhenrys recently relocated to Rhode Island from Brooklyn, N.Y., after renting a car locally. They took time to explore Providence.
“We … liked the vibe, people and town,” Mike Fitzhenry said.
