PROVIDENCE – Wells Fargo & Co. contributed $153,853 and 340 volunteer hours to help Rhode Island nonprofits and causes in 2019, according to a news release.

The California-based financial services company, which has multiple Rhode Island locations, focused its philanthropic efforts on “urgent community issues” such as affordable housing, education for middle school students and job training.

Specific projects included:

  • A 25-member team helped landscape, paint and prepare an affordable-housing complex in Central Falls as part of the Wells Fargo Build program.
  • Access to education through grants to the Providence Public Library’s Teen Squad and a course for students from the Rhode Island Nurse Institute Middle College Charter High School on analyzing health care data.
  • A collaboration with Year Up Rhode Island to support its training program for young adults through skills development, college credit-eligible coursework and internships.

The Wells Fargo Foundation also launched a new strategy in 2019 aimed at housing affordability, small-business growth and financial health.
