Rhode Island Hospital ranked No. 2 in the state, with a high performance rating in three conditions/ procedures: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure and hip replacement.
In Bristol County, Mass., Southcoast Charlton Memorial Hospital also was ranked (tied with Rhode Island Hospital in the Providence metropolitan area rankings) with a high performance rating in three condition/procedures: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, colon cancer surgery and heart failure.
No hospitals in Rhode Island, nor in the Providence metropolitan area were ranked nationally for performance in any medical specialty.
In the U.S. News Honor Roll of Best Hospitals 2017-2018, Massachusetts General Hospital ranked No. 4 in the nation and was the only New England hospital on the list.
Massachusetts General Hospital is nationally ranked in 16 adult specialties, three children’s specialties and was considered high performing in all nine considered condition/procedures in the rankings.

Other institutions in the region received high national rankings. McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass., ranked first in the nation for Psychiatry. Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston tied Mass General for second on the Ear, Nose & Throat rankings.
