(Newport, RI) Child and Family’s 26th annual Taste of Newport will be held Sunday November 15th at the Hyatt Regency on Goat Island in Newport, Rhode Island. The evening begins at 5:30pm and will feature over 45 of Newport County’s best chefs, caterers and confectioners showcasing their culinary talents. Their delicious creations to be enjoyed by an estimated 500 guests!

Taste of Newport is Child & Family’s largest fundraiser that includes a sit down buffet with appetizers, entrees, desserts and specialty coffees. The event also includes a silent and live auction as well as a raffle. Contributions for the auctions and raffle are generously donated by local and regional businesses and organizations.

Proceeds from the 26th annual Taste of Newport will go to Child & Family’s Supportive Housing Program for Homeless Mothers and their Children. “Women with children under the age of twelve, looking for a safe haven can find caring support, guidance and a temporary place to live at Child & Family’s Supportive Housing Program. ” stated Peter M. DiBari, President & CEO of Child and Family. “This program has helped countless mothers and their young children get a fresh start in life. With the current economic climate, the need for this program has grown significantly. ”

Through the program, women and children can stay in comfortable, modern, well-equipped apartments for up to 2 years. The facility is staffed 24 hours a day with assistance always close at hand. Child and Family’s highly trained staff works with clients to provide the skills needed to become personally and economically self-sufficient. Clients also have opportunities to complete a GED, receive job training or enroll in college level courses.

The Child & Family Supportive Housing Program provides the following services:
• life skills training
• educational and vocational guidance
• good parenting strategies
• individual and group counseling
• recreational activities
• legal advocacy
• access to health services
• substance abuse counseling
• assistance in locating permanent housing
• other supportive services
