PROVIDENCE – As risks related to the coronavirus pandemic have come into focus in the United States, events in Rhode Island continue to be canceled, postponed or reformatted as precautionary measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 disease.
Gov. Gina M. Raimondo urged Rhode Islanders Wednesday to refrain from attending or organizing events that would draw 250 or more people for at least two weeks.

Here is Thursday’s list of events that have been postponed, canceled or reformatted:
- The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra has postponed concerts scheduled for Friday and Saturday at The Vets. New dates have not been set.
- The Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been canceled.
- Providence’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration has been canceled.
- Providence’s St. Joseph’s Day Celebration has been canceled.
- The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce announced in an email Thursday that it has postponed all upcoming events, including the annual Santander Economic Outlook breakfast on March 31. Over 200 people had signed up to attend the breakfast, a new date for which has not been determined, according to Mike Blazek, the Chamber’s vice president of communications. A total of nine events and trainings scheduled through April 7 have been postponed, according to the Chamber website.
- The Providence Flea’s March 22 Spring Market has been canceled.
- The 70th annual Rhode Island Home Show, which was scheduled to take place in early April at the R.I. Convention Center has been postponed until further notice.
- Common Cause Rhode Island’s census event has been converted into an online livestream format scheduled for March 14 from 10:30 a.m. through 12 p.m.
- Twin River Casino Hotel has postponed several events, including CES Live Championship Boxing, The Craft Beer, Wine and Food Show, and the March Mania Blackjack Tournament, along with a few upcoming concerts. New dates have not yet been provided.
- Women’s Fund of Rhode Island will be holding its Mocktails and Conversations: Politically Engaged Art virtually on March 26 at 6 p.m.
- Spirit Festival Nationals at the R.I. Convention Center and the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, scheduled for March 13-15, have been postponed. New dates have not been set.
- Harlem Globetrotters scheduled for March 20 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center has been postponed. A new date has not been set.
- Nelson Frietas concert scheduled for April 4 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center has been postponed to Sept. 19.
- Providence Bruins games at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on March 21-22 have been suspended. No new dates have been set.
- JLC Live Residential Construction Show scheduled for March 16-22 at the R.I. Convention Center has been postponed. No new dates have been set.
- NorthEast Regional Computing Program Annual Conference scheduled for March 22-25 at the R.I. Convention Center has been canceled.
- New England Product Group Show scheduled for March 23-25 at the R.I. Convention Center has been canceled.
- RI Saltwater Anglers’ New England Saltwater Fishing Show scheduled for March 27-29 at the R.I. Convention Center has been canceled.
