Mass. unemployment up in all 22 labor markets

BOSTON – The Mass. Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said last month that November’s seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates were up in all of the state’s 22 labor market areas from October.
According to the office’s estimates, unemployment rates were lower in 17 areas, however, when compared with 2009’s figures. New Bedford, Nantucket and Tisbury all saw an increase, while rates were unchanged in Barnstable and Springfield.
The 8.1 percent unemployment rate in November was up from October’s 7.6 percent, but still below November 2009’s 8.7 percent. Massachusetts’ statewide, seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remains well below the national rate of 9.8 percent.
The statewide, seasonally adjusted jobs estimate showed an 8,600-job loss from October, the office said. Massachusetts has added 38,300 jobs since December 2009. &#8226
