In past years, last month’s House Finance Committee recommendation to not provide $700,000 for Cumberland’s Democracy Prep Blackstone Valley might have derailed the planned charter school. But supporters mounted an aggressive lobbying effort that led to the restoration of that funding and money for another new charter school, in Central Falls. For the Cumberland school, the funding clears the way for a much anticipated September opening.
