WOONSOCKET – CVS Caremark Corp. last week announced that sales at its CVS/pharmacy stores division for August increased 4.9 percent over the same period last year. Store sales increased 4.0 percent, but were negatively impacted by approximately 500 basis points due to recent generic introductions, the company said.
Sales at CVS/pharmacy for the first 34 weeks of 2007 period have increased 6.1 percent over the prior year period. Pharmacy sales increased percent, while front-end store sales increased 6.3 percent.

During the four week period ended August 25 opened 15 new stores, closed 3 stores and relocated 13 others. As of August 25, the company operated 6,192 CVS/pharmacy stores in 40 states and the District of Columbia.
