The 3M Company said Wednesday that it has chosen Quaker Fabric Corp. in Fall River to help it relaunch its Scotchgard fabric protector in the residential upholstery and contract and outdoor fabric markets.
Quaker, which has been struggling financially in the face of strong competition from China, was chosen for the Scotchgard relaunch because it “shares our value for the brand and for the environment,” said Mitch Culbreath, business development manager with 3M’s Protective Materials & Consumer Health Care Division, in a news release.

Larry A. Liebenow, Quaker’s president and CEO, said he was pleased that the company’s commitment to selling “environmentally responsible products” had “caught 3M’s attention.” He added: “We are proud that this made us 3M’s first choice when it came to moving the Scotchgard brand back into the living rooms of America’s homeowners.”
The reformulated Scotchgard has all the benefits of the old product – stain resistance, stain repellency and stain release – with little or no environmental impact, 3M said.
