The MetLife Foundation awarded the Community College of Rhode Island $45,000 to provide academic and advisory support to urban high school students enrolling in Early College.
The grant is part of MetLife’s $500,000 effort to support community colleges, the company announced Wednesday.
The MetLife Foundation Community College Connection Program’s says the program’s goal is to stimulate novel, interesting and creative approaches to education on and off the community college campus and build bridges to educational opportunity.

MetLife said the grants will be used to help attract and retain students; provide for counseling and other support services; address obstacles to students’ success; and forge partnerships with schools and other organizations to reach out to those who might not have college in their sights.
The Foundation awarded grants ranging from $35,000 to $50,000 to eleven community colleges.
