Hasbro-partner Takara’s profit falls 33 percent

Takara Co, the maker of
Beyblade fighting tops, said its annual profit dropped 33 percent
after it took charges to write down its inventories. Sales rose 29
percent thanks to its tops and other products.

Takara increased the proportion of overseas to total sales
to 17.5 percent from 11.4 percent, thanks to rising North American
sales of toys distributed by Hasbro Inc.

Sales increased to 85.7 billion yen, from 66.3 billion yen.
Sales of its toy products including Beyblade rose 17 percent to 15
billion yen, while its microphone-sized “e-kara” karaoke systems
distributed by Hasbro Inc., the world’s second-biggest toymaker,
helped increase overseas revenue, Takara said.
