After adjusting for the impact of differences in the specific days of the week that comprised January 2002 compared to January 2001, including the removal of January 1, 2002 sales, total sales for January 2002 decreased approximately 2.4 percent, and same-store sales declined approximately 5.5 percent. Adjusted same-store sales in full-line stores decreased in all geographic regions, and decreased in all merchandise categories except cosmetics.
