Kay Martens has been named Volunteer of the Year at Newport Hospital. She has
logged over 1,700 volunteer hours since 1998. She started her affiliation with
Newport Hospital as an employee in 1972 in the patient accounts department. Martens
retired in 1989 and now contributes her time to four areas of the hospital: the
information desk, human resources, the gift shop, and as chairperson of the newborn
knits program, which makes hand-knit hats for newborns in the birthing center.
She is a resident of Portsmouth.
