PROVIDENCE, R.I. — First Financial Corp., the parent company of First Bank and Trust Company, reported year-end record earnings for 2000, with net income for the year of $1,970,719 — an 8.4 percent increase over last year.
First Financial’s net income rose 6.5 percent during the fourth quarter, to $510,393. According to company officials, the earnings represented the strongest fourth quarter in First Financial’s history. Diluted earnings per share for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2000 amounted to $.42 as compared to $.39 for the prior year’s fourth quarter. Diluted earnings per share for the year ended December 31, 2000 amounted to $1.62, as compared to $1.47 for 1999.
