PROVIDENCE — Sprague Energy of Providence and Inland Fuel of Tiverton have been selected by the state to house a two to three-day reserve of heating oil.
The state has created the reserve to ensure there will be fuel on hand in case of emergency this winter.

The heating oil supply contract was evenly divided between Sprague Energy’s Providence Harbor terminal and Inland Fuel’s East Bay terminal in Tiverton. Both locations will each house 40,000 barrels (1,680,000 gallons), for a total of 3.36 million gallons – approximately a two to three-day supply of oil.
The state’s commitment to the program is $571,536. Sprague Energy’s share will be $272,496 and Inland’s share will be $299,040. The oil will be available from January 1, 2001 through February 25, 2001. Through an Executive Order, the Governor has the sole authority to release the heating oil, basing his decision on, among other things, criteria included in the State of Rhode Island Emergency Energy Plan.
