R.I. engineering studies OK’d by Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Three Rhode Island engineering studies proposed for the U.S.
Corps of Engineers have been approved by both houses of Congress and await the
President’s signature. The studies are for maintaining the Quonset Point channel,
determining the environmental feasibility for a permanent offshore sediment disposal
for the state, and determining the need and scope of repairs for the proposed
Cliff Walk repairs and restoration in Newport. The projects are included in the
Water Resources Development Act, a biannual bill that deals with projects involving
the country’s rivers and harbors.
