HELP awards more than $700,000 in grants

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Health & Education Leadership for Providence (HELP) reported that it will fund several programs that enhance the health and education of Providence’s children and families. HELP, a nonprofit coalition of hospitals, colleges and universities has awarded 11 grants totaling more than $700,000, which will support a variety of community-based initiatives.

Programs receiving funding include the Providence School Department After School Literacy Programs ($100,000); Computerization of the Providence School Health Card ($75,000); Providence School Department Carnegie Corporation High School Redesign Initiative ($50,000); Draw a Breath Project ($30,000); Johnson & Wales After School Nutrition Project ($5,000); Feinstein Institute’s After School Projects ($36,200); Teaching for Tomorrow ($300,000); HELP Lead Safe Center ($75,000); ESL Professional Development Initiative ($73,000); Christmas in April ($45,000); and the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program ($10,000).

Its member institutions are: Brown University; Butler Hospital; Johnson & Wales University; Miriam Hospital; Providence College; Rhode Island Hospital; Rhode Island School of Design; Roger Williams Medical Center; St. Joseph Hospital; and Women & Infant’s Hospital.
