Richard A. Plotkin
Richard A. Plotkin, CPA/PFS has been named chairman of Rooney, Plotkin & Willey, LLP of Newport. He will be responsible for the overall strategic direction of the firm and its various affiliates, as well as leading its personal financial planning practice. He will also represent the firm’s interest in its international accounting association, IA International. Plotkin, one of the founding partners of Rooney, Plotkin and Willey, has served as managing partner of the firm for the last 18 years and is currently the secretary of IA International.

Mark D. Fisher
Mark D. Fisher, NCARB, AIA has been promoted to Associate of The Robinson Green Baretta Corporation in Providence. A registered architect by the state of Rhode Island, The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, Fisher joined Robinson Green Baretta in 1998. He holds degrees in architecture and fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design, as well as a degree in civil engineering from the University of Rhode Island.

Thomas J. Lyons
Thomas J. Lyons has been elected vice president for the commercial lending division of Fall River Five Cents Savings Bank. He previously served as market manager for Bristol County at FleetBoston’s small business services division and chief operating officer for the south region at BankBoston. A retired captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve, Lyons graduated from the State University of New York with a bachelor’s in business administration and Bryant College with a master’s in management. He has certificates from Stonier Graduate School of Banking and Williams School of Banking, and serves as a member of various organizations, such as Fall River School System Diversity Council and UMass Dartmouth Family Business Center. Lyons resides in Middletown.
Susana Amaral Medeiros
Susana Amaral Medeiros has been appointed branch manager of People’s Credit Union’s East Greenwich location. Medeiros joined People’s Credit Union in 1998 as a manager trainee, and became the assistant branch manager of the Middletown office in 1999. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in management and international studies from Bryant College, and is a resident of North Providence.
EDUCATION
Karl J. Guggenmos
Karl J. Guggenmos has been appointed dean of culinary arts at Johnson & Wales University. He had previously been director of culinary education at the Charleston, South Carolina campus of Johnson & Wales, and has been an instructor at the university since 1988. Guggenmos worked as a chef at the corporate level, at a country club and at hotels in the United States as well as in his native Germany. A certified executive chef and culinary educator through the American Culinary Federation, he is a graduate of Johnson & Wales Senior Management Academy and is now on the faculty. He serves as the University’s representative to the World Association of Cooks Society and is a distinguished visiting chef and lecturer at the University of Wales.

Anthony Scarpino
Anthony Scarpino, RD has been named president-elect of the Massachusetts Dietetic Association. He is the director of nutrition services at Saint Anne’s Hospital, where he previously served as clinical nutrition manager. He earned an undergraduate nutrition degree with a concentration in exercise science from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in nutrition with a concentration in management from the University of North Carolina. Scarpino is an American Dietetic Association-registered dietitian and is board certified as a nutrition support dietitian by the American Society of Parental and Enteral Nutrition. He is a resident of Mansfield.
Lawrence H. Price
Lawrence H. Price, MD has been ranked among the most cited psychiatrists in the country by the Institute for Scientific Information in Philadelphia. Dr. Price, who is the clinical director and director of research at Butler Hospital in Providence, produced a total of 21 high impact papers over the last decade. He is a professor of psychiatry at Brown University and is involved with several studies on new treatments for depression and for treatment-resistant depression.

Phil DeSautels
Phil Desautels has joined Soucy Insurance Agency of Woonsocket as sales executive. His primary function will be to produce new commercial line clients for the firm. He has previously served as a partner in Northeast Insurance, Inc. of Providence, an excess and surplus insurance brokerage firm, and as underwriter with the Home Insurance Company. He is licensed to sell insurance in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and resides in Blackstone with his wife Therese.

Maureen A. McIntyre has been named marketing manager of Rhode Island Monthly Communications, Inc. She is responsible for marketing programs and special events tied to both circulation and advertising initiatives. McIntyre was previously employed as event coordinator at Food & Wine Magazine in New York and Island Celebrations on Block Island as well as salesperson for Ballard Hall Real Estate on Block Island. She is a graduate of Providence College and a resident of East Greenwich.

Erin Ross Carroll
Erin Ross Carroll has been promoted to copy manager at Ross-Simons in Cranston. She will be responsible for conceptualizing and producing creative copy for company publications. Carroll previously served as senior copywriter for Ross-Simons. Prior to joining the company, she was employed as advertising and marketing copywriter for Hills Department Stores and retail and promotions writer for Brooks Pharmacy. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., Carroll now resides in Providence.
