American Cancer Society raises over $100,000 at annual ball

The American Cancer Society raised over $100,000 at their 23rd Annual Black-Tie Ball held at Rosecliff Mansion in Newport.

Almost 500 people joined co-chairpersons Herb and Monica Cummings of Bristol and Bob and Donna Urciuoli of Providence to raise funds for the fight against cancer. Funds raised go to the research, education and patient service programs of the American Cancer Society.

A silent auction was held that featured items such as an original Vera Wang dress that was purchased for $600. Marie Rocchio of Jamestown won the raffle for a one-year lease on a 2001 Volkswagon Beatle donated by Fiore Volkswagon. Other items included in the auction were an original Maxwell Mays print, a dinner catered by Guy Abelson and a cruise in the sailboat Aurora.
