APC selected to provide backup for Optical Solutions

WEST KINGSTON, R.I., and MINNEAPOLIS /PRNewswire/ — To address the powering needs
of fiber-optic solutions that deliver voice, video and high-speed data directly
to the home, American Power Conversion and Optical Solutions Inc. today announced
a partnership that will provide Optical Solutions’ FiberPath® customers with
APC’s PowerShield(TM), a local power and surge protection device that is installed
directly in the customer’s home. Optical Solutions selected APC’s PowerShield
as its battery back-up and local power source because it is cost-effective, easier
to use and manage, and has a longer life cycle than other power systems. Since
the PowerShield is installed directly in the home, it is not subjected to environmental
conditions that can weaken or shorten the life of the system.
