Barron’s names top R.I. advisers

PROVIDENCE – Barron’s has named five Rhode Island-based financial advisers to the magazine’s list of America’s Top 1,000 Advisors: State-by-State, and the names look familiar.
The same five advisers made the top-five list last year, based on client balances, return on assets, client satisfaction, compliance records and community contribution.
Malcolm Makin from Raymond James in Westerly maintained his No. 1 ranking with Barron’s; Edythe De Marco, with Merrill Lynch, was ranked second, moving up two spots from last year.
UBS Financial Services’ Robert DiColo was ranked third in 2011, falling one notch from last year. And Morgan Stanley Smith Barney’s James Hilton and John Zitzmann rounded out the top five. Hilton, in Newport, was ranked fifth last year; Zitzmann, in Providence, had been No. 3 in 2010.
Financial advisers considered for Barron’s America’s Top 1,000 Advisors: State-by-State ranking have a minimum of seven years’ financial-services experience and have been employed at their current firm for at least one year.
